First time out in 2 weeks nets a ring

Met a fellow hunter friend and spent a very hot and humid morning hunting a High School baseball and soccer field...Found some clad, and a ring just where a first baseman should stand...Ring has no markings and appears to be nickel plated, but it rang in as a solid 85...It is hefty and thick...It is perplexing me...I will have to take it to a jeweler to have them verify the base metal and plating...I cannot see anyone plating over silver, unless the ring was originally plated and the plating was peeling off???
