GTI 2500 arriving Friday...

Well, UPS assures me the package got out of Florida before the floods shut everything down...It should be at my door tomorrow night.  I will try to get out with it on Saturday or Sunday and let ya all know what I think...

Update:  As of 5pm Thursday, it is at East Syracuse, NY terminal and will be out for delivery tomorrow...Now I am like a kid on Christmas Eve...lol

More pics from Split Rock Quarry hike

As you can see the Poison Oak was plentiful, but the berries were still green...
The First Foundation we came across
A Property or Surveyors stake I found (note the orange ribbon in lower left)
This thing rang up a solid 98, and I thought I had found a silver dollar...Shucks!
 A Very Large foundation
 More of the large foundation
 Even more
I am not sure if this was an original oven, or if someone pulled a rock out of here to make an oven.
Homeless persons have been known to camp back here. We found nylon rope tied between trees to hold up a tent, or for a clothsline.

A grueling hike in the woods

Well, a new hunter and friend made the 1 hour drive North to visit me for a Sunday hunt.  We headed for a wooded area that was a little hard to find, as it was just a small pull-off on the side of the road with 1 path leadeing into the woods.  As we hiked in, the path was covered with crushed rocks, that were hell on the feet.  This had to last for nearly 3/4 of a mile...We must have hiked 1 1/2-2 miles in and out...I wanted to stone whoever put the rocks on the path with every stone I walked on...My dogs were dogged dog!!!
We did find about 4 or 5 cellar holes and foundations to a larger building...Very cool, this was all large stacked rocks mostly.  Was like looking at the pyramids in Egypt.  We came out on the far side of the woods and chatted with a local resident who told us where some of the better sites in the woods could be found...We were at the site of an old Limestone Quarry and munitions factory that was in operation durring WWI I guess up to 1914 when it caught fire and exploded, killing 53 men....The old rock crusher is a site to behold...It is enormous!
The finds for the day were meager, with not one coin found (except a modern quarter found by a campfire ring by my new friend).  I think we found the dump site for the area and found a lot of cool bottles, old oil cans,  and a tobacco tin.
other finds were railroad spikes from the trolly tracks that serviced the site, and square nails around the foundations we discovered.

This is my "Blood Stone", as it looks like milky quartz soaked with blood...kinda cool!

Any info on the dates for the white glass vials is greatly appreciated.  I think they were face cream vials, but no names on the bottles.

Parting is such Sweet Sorrow...

I am looking at Selling my AT Pro package and getting a GTI 2500 package.  I need something easier to break down and carry across my back on a bicycle or to lug while hiking to hunting locations, seeing as I do not have a vehicle...
I hate giving up the Pro, because in my eyes, any other detector is a step backwards...I do not think ANY detector out there can do what the Pro can do, and if there is...Someone let me know about it...
Well, the next finds I post will probably be with the GTI 2500.

Old paths turn up 3 Wheats

Hit a park today that has been around since 1886...The last extension of the area was done in 1890. The area is loaded with cans and can slaw, foil wrappers, and the usual bottle tops and pull tabs...The old cobblestones can still be found just under the grass roots in spots. The only way you know they are there is if your walking on them, the ground feels harder, and you can see a slight depression in the area.  I pulled 3 Wheaties from one path, and about 2 pounds of junk...No other coins were found here...Nearby power lines and underground telephone lines were giving me fits, so I could only turn up the Sens about half way on the AT Pro. I was hunting with the stock 8.5x11 DD coil in Pro Zero, Zero Iron Disc, with Iron Audio ON. I no longer dig the screw caps, as I can tell them very clearly in this configuration...They read between 78 and 82 and give this distinct warble sound, as where zinc pennies are cleaner sounding, and copper pennies are very clean sounding.
As I found no other coins or jewelry on this path, I headed for outfield on the hardball diamond...All I found here was clad, a key, a newer buckle (Did not smell of Cologne...lol), and the face of an old pocket watch I think.  The weather was hot and humid, but a nice breeze made it tolerable for 2 hours of hunting.
Wheats are dated 1934, 1947, and 1951 (all with no mint marks) between 4-6 inches deep. Oldest other coin was a 1967 dime.

First time out in 2 weeks nets a ring

Met a fellow hunter friend and spent a very hot and humid morning hunting a High School baseball and soccer field...Found some clad, and a ring just where a first baseman should stand...Ring has no markings and appears to be nickel plated, but it rang in as a solid 85...It is hefty and thick...It is perplexing me...I will have to take it to a jeweler to have them verify the base metal and plating...I cannot see anyone plating over silver, unless the ring was originally plated and the plating was peeling off???

First Gold for the Year

I know you know the words...

It's another Saturday Night and.....I found GOLD!!!!  BOOM BUBBA!!!
10K plated, but it is still gold!
Rang a solid 66 on the VDI using the 4.5 Super Sniper coil on the AT Pro.
Also got $2.78 in clad for 2 hours in the dark...I hunted from 9pm till 11pm.
Surface coins just stand out like deer eyes in a headlight with my headlamp...
